The South East Via A1
Take the A1 to Scotch Corner and join the A66 (signed
Brough & Penrith). Follow the A66 along to Greta
Bridge where there is a short section of dual carriageway.
About 800 yards along the dual carriageway, turn right
following the signs to Barnard Castle. Follow directions
from Barnard Castle
This
road leads to Eggleston (approximately 5 miles distance).
Drop down a long hill towards the village, past the
garage on your left and follow the signs to 'Eggleston
Hall Gardens' and Romaldkirk. The entrance gates are
on the right as you drive down a steep hill towards
a bridge over the river Tees. Allow about 25 minutes
from Scotch Corner.

The South West via M6
Leave M6 at junction 38 (Tebay) and follow A685 to
Brough. Join A66 towards Scotch Corner. At Bowes,
follow signs into Barnard Castle (A688). Then follow
directions from Barnard Castle (noted below). Allow
50 minutes from M6

the North West via M6
Leave M6 at junction 40 (Penrith) and follow
A66 to Bowes. Then follow directions from Barnard
Castle (see below).

Barnard Castle
In Barnard Castle, follow the main street through
the town. As you begin to leave the town, turn left
signed Middleton-in-Teesdale (B6278). This road leads
to Eggleston (approximately 5 miles distance). Drop
down a long hill towards the village and follow the
signs to 'Eggleston Hall Gardens' and Romaldkirk.
The entrance gates are on the right as you drive down
a steep hill towards a bridge over the river Tees
From
Newcastle & The North East
Take A1 south and leave at Durham Bowburn Services
(signed A688 Bishop Auckland). Follow the A688 towards
Barnard Castle. At the village of Staindrop, follow
signs to Eggleston at the end of the village. After
approximately 8 miles, turn right at T junction. Drop
down a long hill towards the village and follow the
signs to 'Eggleston Hall Gardens and Romaldkirk. The
entrance gates are on the right as you drive down
a steep hill towards a bridge over the river Tees. |
